What is ferromanganese powder
Ferromanganese powder is a powdery substance made from a mixture of iron and manganese that has a high combustion temperature and flammability. It can burn in air and also has strong oxidising and corrosive properties. Due to its high ignition point and flammability, ferromanganese powder poses a certain risk of explosion and fire. In addition, manganese-iron powder is highly reactive to humidity, water, acids and alkalis in the air, releasing harmful gases.
Hazards of ferromanganese powder
- Flammability: MnFe powder will cause combustion and explosion when it is heated, exposed to open flame or in contact with oxidising agents.
- Chemical Reactivity: MnFePO4 will have chemical reaction when contacting with water or acid, and release flammable gas. It can react violently with fluorine and chlorine.
- Health hazards: Ferromanganese powder has irritating and corrosive effects on skin, eyes, etc. Long-term exposure may lead to health problems.
Safety Measures
- To ensure the safety of employees and related personnel, safety measures are required when storing, transporting and using ferromanganese powder.
- Storage: Ferromanganese powder needs to be stored in an environment that is moisture-proof, water-proof and fire-proof, and the quality and safety of the powder needs to be checked regularly.
- Transport: When transporting ferromanganese powder, transporters need to comply with relevant transport regulations and ensure that containers are well sealed.
- Use: Staff producing and using ferromanganese powder should wear personal protective equipment such as protective gloves, masks and goggles.
