Firstly, the silicon element in silicon carbon alloy is highly active and easily reacts with oxygen, raising the furnace temperature, deoxidizing the slag, reducing deoxidation time, avoiding power waste, and improving deoxidation efficiency. Secondly, silicon carbon alloy contains a relatively high amount of carbon element. While deoxidizing, it can also increase carbon content. For some plain carbon steel varieties, using silicon carbon alloy as a carbon increaser is also a good choice.

Silicon carbon alloys are produced using the electric furnace method or metallurgical method. The electric furnace method uses silica and coke as the main raw materials, mix them in a certain proportion and put them into a high-temperature electric furnace for reaction.
