Silicon Metal Lump
Silicon Metal Lump has the CAS No. 7440-21-3 and EINECS No. 231-130-8. Its molecular formula is Silicon, with a molecular weight of 28.0855. It has a density of 2.33 g/cm³, a melting point of 1410°C, and a boiling point of 2355°C. It appears as a grey crystal with a metallic luster. After production, it is crushed into silicon metal lump, silicon metal granules, and silicon metal powder according to customer requirements.
Uses of Silicon Metal Lump
Additive and Deoxidiser for Non-ferrous Metal Alloys
The main use of industrial si lump is as an additive for non-ferrous metal alloys. Si added to certain non-ferrous metals, can play a role in improving the base metal strength, hardness and wear resistance, and sometimes also improve the casting properties and welding properties of the base. For example, in the manufacture of casting bearings and bushings of silicon lead brass containing Si3%, used in the manufacture of springs and welding parts of silicon manganese bronze containing Si3%, used in the manufacture of marine engine parts, internal combustion engine cylinders and cylinder heads, etc. Silicon Aluminium Ming containing Si10% ~ 13%. In non-ferrous metal alloys, the largest user of industrial silicon lump is as an additive to aluminium alloys (silicon-aluminium alloys, aluminium-magnesium alloys, duralumin, etc.), used in aluminium alloys additives accounted for more than 70% of the total output of industrial silicon.
When smelting non-ferrous metal alloys, it is also used as a deoxidiser.
Alloying Agent for Silicon Steel
For some silicon steel sheet with particularly stringent requirements, industrial silicon lump should be used as the alloying agent of silicon steel, and the aluminium content of silicon metal lump used for the production of high-grade silicon steel sheet should be strictly controlled.
Reducing Agent of Some Oxides
Based on the strong chemical affinity between silicon and Oxygen, the use of metal silicon lump can also reduce some of the weaker affinity with oxygen (such as manganese oxide, vanadium oxide, etc.), or stronger affinity with oxygen, but the metal itself volatile metal oxides (such as calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, etc.). All of the above oxides can be reduced with silicon lump under atmospheric pressure or vacuum conditions.
Semiconductor Materials
High-purity silicon has obvious semiconductor properties, is an excellent semiconductor material. Industrial silicon lump after a series of industrial processing can be pulled into monocrystalline silicon made of si transistors for use in the electronics industry, can be made of polysilicon and solar cells.
