High Carbon Ferrochrome is the most important raw material for stainless steel production, mainly used in the production of stainless steel, ball bearing steel, tool steel, nitriding steel, heat-resistant steel, quenched and tempered steel, carburized steel, and hydrogen-resistant steel. This is because chromium plays a decisive role in stainless steel, and the only element determining the properties of stainless steel is chromium. Every type of stainless steel must contain a certain amount of chromium.

High Carbon Ferrochrome Chemical Composition

High Carbon Ferrochrome is mainly used in stainless steel production. The chromium content in 200 series stainless steel is approximately 16%, in 300 series stainless steel it is approximately 25%, and in 400 series stainless steel it is approximately 14%. The 300 series stainless steel, which has the highest demand for chromium iron, also accounts for the largest proportion in stainless steel production. High Carbon Ferrochrome is also used as an alloying agent for high carbon ball bearing steel, tool steel, and high-speed steel, to improve steel hardenability, increase wear resistance and hardness. It is used as an additive in cast iron to improve wear resistance and hardness, as well as to impart good heat resistance to cast iron. It is used as a raw material for producing silicon chromium alloys and medium, low, and micro-carbon ferrochrome by the slag-free method, and as a raw material for producing metallic chromium by the electrolytic method. It is also used as a raw material for the oxygen blowing method in stainless steel smelting.
