Inoculant

Inoculant is a substance that promotes graphitization, reduces the tendency of white mouth, improves graphite morphology and distribution, increases the number of eutectic clusters and refines the matrix organization. It has good effect in a short time (about 5-8 minutes) after the inoculation treatment. Ferro silicon inoculants and silicon barium inoculants are two common inoculants.

The mechanical properties of gray cast iron depends largely on its microstructure. Gray cast iron without inoculation treatment, microstructure instability, low mechanical properties, castings of thin-walled easy to appear white mouth. In order to ensure the consistency of casting quality, gestation treatment is essential.

Inoculant used in cast iron inoculation treatment, adding a small amount of inoculant, the chemical composition of cast iron has little effect on its microstructure, but the impact is very large, thus improving the mechanical properties of gray cast iron, its physical properties also have a significant impact. Good inoculation treatment has the following effects:

◆ Eliminate or reduce the tendency of white mouth;
◆ Avoiding the appearance of supercooling organization;
◆ Reduce the wall thickness sensitivity of cast iron parts, so that the difference in microstructure at the thin and thick sections of castings is small, and the difference in hardness is also small;
◆ To favor the nucleation of eutectic masses, so that the number of eutectic masses increases;
◆To make the graphite form in cast iron is mainly fine and uniformly distributed A-type graphite, so as to improve the mechanical properties of cast iron.
Well-pregnated cast iron has better fluidity, reduced shrinkage of castings, improved machinability and reduced residual stress.
