Product Description

Silicon metals are produced from quartz and coke in an electrically heated furnace. The quartz undergoes a redox reaction and turns into a molten silicon liquid, which when cooled becomes the solid that we see with the naked eye. Silicon can be alloyed with other metals to enhance their metallic properties. Silicon is a metalloid that combines the typical properties of metals and non-metals. It is very inert and insoluble in water and acid. However, it can be dissolved into silicates by hot lye. Pure silicon forms dark gray, metallic luster crystals. Silicon metals also has excellent thermal conductivity; pure silicon has a very low thermal conductivity. When alloyed with aluminum, it increases strength and reduces weight.
