There Are A Few Main Methods To Produce Ferro Silicon Magnesium
- FeSiRE23 Melting Method: This is a common production method using an electric arc furnace. The material is added in the sequence of ferrosilicon, magnesium, ferrosilicon again, rare-earth ferrosilicon alloy, and scrap steel. This process allows magnesium to form compounds with silicon before contacting the steel melt, which reduces magnesium activity and minimizes alloy splashing losses. Timing is crucial when stirring the furnace, and the materials need to stay aerated.
- FeSi9(50-60)RE27 Melting Method: Recently, places like Weihai and Yingkou in China have established production lines using carbothermic reduction in submerged arc furnaces for rare-earth ferrosilicon alloy. This method results in a high silicon content in the FeSiMg alloy, with about 4% barium.
- Medium-Frequency Induction Furnace Melting Method: This method uses rare-earth ferrosilicon alloy, ferrosilicon, and scrap steel as raw materials. Typically, equipment with a capacity of 0.15 to 0.5 tons is used, with each batch producing 0.05 to 0.25 tons, taking about 30 minutes. The crucibles are made of graphite or magnesia.

During the melting process, the raw materials create a FeSiMg that significantly improves the strength of cast iron and provides de-gassing, desulfurizing, and deoxidizing benefits. Its use in the metallurgy and casting industries is growing.
