Manganese Ferroalloy
Manganese ferroalloy, as the name suggests, is an alloy of manganese and iron. The raw materials for the production of FeMn are usually formed by melting and fully reacting manganese ores containing manganese, coke and lime under high temperature conditions. As coke is added during the melting process, it contains some carbon elements.Manganese ferroalloy can be classified into low carbon manganese ferroalloy, medium carbon manganese ferroalloy and high carbon manganese ferroalloy according to the content of carbon elements.
Upstream and downstream of Manganese ferroalloy

Upstream Chain
1.Manganese Ore:
- Source: Manganese ore is the main raw material for the production of FeMn. Major supplying countries include South Africa, Australia, Brazil and Gabon.
- Types: There are mainly manganese oxide ore and manganese carbonate ore.
- Production and supply: mining, beneficiation and processing.
2.Coke:
Source: Mainly from coal, obtained through a high temperature coking process.
Role: Used to provide reducing atmosphere and heat in the smelting process.
3.Electricity:
Source: The process of producing FeMn consumes a large amount of electricity, and the cost of electricity is one of the important production costs.
Role: The main energy source for smelting FeMn in electric arc furnaces.
4.Limestone:
Source: Limestone is a common flux used in the production process to lower the melting point and viscosity of the slag and to enhance the recovery of manganese.
Downstream Chain
1.Iron and steel industry:
Application: Manganese ferroalloy are widely used in the production of carbon and stainless steel. Manganese in steel mainly plays the role of deoxidation, desulphurisation and improvement of mechanical properties.
Proportion: Different amounts of manganese need to be added in almost all steel grades.
2.Foundry Industry:
Application: used for casting high manganese steel (e.g. wear parts), ductile iron, etc. to improve the strength and wear resistance of the material.
3.Speciality alloys:
Applications: used to produce high performance speciality steels and alloys, such as materials for high temperature and corrosion resistant applications.
4.Chemical Industry:
Applications: Manganese compounds are used in the chemical industry, e.g. in the production of dry batteries, oxidisers, glass and ceramic industries, etc.SGS
