Manganese can reduce steel brittleness, improve hot working properties, and increase strength, hardness, and wear resistance, hence the saying "no manganese, no steel." Due to the increasing annual production of steel types with high demand for silicon manganese alloy, it has become the most widely used and consumed ferroalloy. The most commonly used silicon manganese alloy is the SiMn 6517# , with the designation FeMn68Si18.

 

Silicon manganese alloy is essential in ordinary steel production, albeit in small quantities. For every ton of crude steel, about 10-12 kg of simn alloy is consumed, with its cost accounting for only 2.5-3% of the total steel cost, making its price fluctuations have minimal impact on steel prices.
