The main elements of SiMn alloys are Si and Mn.Manganese and silicon are the main alloying elements used in carbon steel. Manganese is one of the most important deoxidizers in the steelmaking process, and almost all steel grades need manganese to deoxidize; manganese is the desulfurizing agent for all industrial steels, enabling the steel to be hot rolled, forged and other processes without fracture, manganese is also the most important alloying element in all steel grades, and more than 15% manganese is added to alloy steels in order to increase the structural strength of the steel. Silicon is the most important alloying element after manganese in pig iron and carbon steel. Large amounts of manganese and silicon are added to steel in the form of ferroalloys, such as SiMn.

 

Several factors influence the price fluctuations of SiMn

• Supply and demand dynamics: The steel industry primarily consumes SiMn, with demand closely linked to steel prices, particularly for rebar. Higher steel prices drive up demand for silicomanganese, leading to price increases, while lower steel prices reduce demand and cause price declines. Long-term low operating rates indicate reduced alloy supply, signaling potential price increases, whereas high operating rates indicate surplus supply and potential price decreases.

• Raw material prices: SiMn, a ferroalloy synthesized from manganese, silicon, iron, and other elements, is influenced by the prices of its raw materials. Rising raw material prices increase production costs, thereby pushing silicomanganese prices higher.

• Electricity costs: Ferroalloy smelting is energy-intensive, with electricity costs being a significant component of production expenses.

• National policies: Government policies related to silicomanganese production can also impact its prices.
