Product Description

High carbon silicon is a by-product of the production process of silicon metal or ferrosilicon. Some steel mills also call it SiC, because it is the real ferrosilicon and carbon components melted and synthesised. In the smelting process, due to the poor heating effect of the electrode, the bottom of the furnace can not reach the temperature of melting silicon metal or ferrosilicon, resulting in insufficient chemical reaction between silica and carbon at the bottom of the furnace. After a period of time, the furnace bottom will accumulate for a long time. Produce thick alloy deposition, that is, high-carbon silicon deposition. High carbon silicon is rich in silicon but high in carbon, and is relatively inexpensive compared to silicon metal and ferrosilicon.

Application

1. As the silicon content in high carbon silicon alloy is more than 50%, it has strong deoxidising effect, and the deoxidiser does not contain manganese and other elements, so it has wide applicability;
2. Compared with other types of deoxidiser, it has absolute price advantage and can replace traditional deoxidisers such as ferrosilicon powder, calcium carbide powder, carbon powder and gold powder.
3. High carbon silicon in the deoxidation at the same time also has a certain desulphurisation and carburisation effect, can replace part of the carburising agent, thus greatly reducing the cost of steelmaking.

 

Process

During the process of smelting metallic silicon, due to insufficient heating of the electrodes in the furnace, the bottom of the furnace did not reach the temperature required to produce metallic silicon. The silicon, carbon and other raw materials at the bottom of the furnace did not fully react. After a long period of accumulation, high carbon silicon was formed.
