Product Description

Ferro manganese (FeMn) is an alloy composed of iron and manganese and is an important auxiliary material for cast iron and steelmaking. The fracture of FeMn is dark gray with blue-yellow flashes (because manganese contains hard and brittle Mn3C), it is hard and brittle. It is primarily used as a deoxidizer to counteract the adverse effects of sulfur in metals. FeMn improves hot workability and affects properties such as strength, hardness, toughness and hardenability.

Production method

Low-carbon ferromanganese is produced by the aluminothermal process and is widely used in the manufacture of tool, alloy and structural steels. Due to its properties, it has a high affinity for sulphur in steel and when combined, produces manganese sulphide (MnS) which floats on the surface of the metal. Low carbon ferromanganese is also used in the manufacture of 18-8 austenitic non-magnetic stainless steel.

The solvent method is commonly used for smelting high carbon ferromanganese. The charge composition includes lime in addition to manganese ore and coke. High alkalinity slag operating alkalinity is used for smelting. Sufficient amount of reductant is used to minimize the manganese content in the waste slag and to improve the manganese recovery rate.

The cold charging method is the traditional method for producing medium carbon ferromanganese. The refining furnace used is a tilted graphite electrode electric arc furnace. The smelting process of medium carbon ferromanganese includes furnace repair, arc starting, charging, smelting, refining and steelmaking.

Application

High carbon ferromanganese is mainly used in steelmaking, deoxidizer, desulfurizer and alloy additives, and with the progress of medium and low carbon ferromanganese production technology, high carbon ferromanganese can also be used to produce medium and low carbon ferromanganese. FeMn is a deoxidizer and alloy material used in steelmaking. As an alloying element additive, it can improve the hardness, ductility, toughness and wear resistance of steel. It is widely used in structural steel, tool steel, stainless heat-resistant steel, wear-resistant steel and other alloy steels. Manganese also desulfurizes and reduces the harmful effects of sulfur.
