Ferro Silicon lumps are a silvery gray colored ferrosilicon that is mainly used as an inoculant and spheroidizing agent in the foundry industry. Since silicon and oxygen can easily synthesize SiO2, ferrosilicon is often used as a deoxidizing agent in the steelmaking process. The use of 72/75 Ferro Silicon as an additive in the production of ferrous metals brings some desirable properties to the alloys produced. Some of the main benefits of adding ferrosilicon to alloys are to improve the corrosion resistance of the alloy and to increase the high temperature heat resistance of new alloys, such as in the production of silicon steel for transformer cores.

In the process of steel making, steel needs to be oxidized in order to reach the ideal high temperature environment, and too much oxygen in the later stage tends to produce more oxides in the steel, which affects the quality of the steel. At the same time, ferrosilicon 75 can also effectively promote the mobility of steel, improve the absorption rate, reduce production costs and increase the profit of the steel mill.

Ferro Silicon lumps can also replace the inoculant in the casting process, promote the formation of eutectic pellets, and increase the number of eutectic pellets. Adding ferrosilicon in the production of ductile iron can effectively prevent the formation of carbides in the ferrofluid and promote the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite. It can effectively improve the fluidity of iron, thus preventing nozzle clogging and reducing the tendency of white cast iron in castings.

How to product ferro silicon?

There are several ways to produce ferrosilicon. It can be made by reacting coke with silicon dioxide. Or this alloy is obtained by melting scrap steel and a reducing agent of quartz in an immersion arc furnace. The hot liquid alloy is then poured into a sand bed, cooled and broken into small pieces. Depending on the size ordered, these small pieces can be further crushed to obtain the desired size.
