Product Description

It is well known that calcined petroleum coke (CPC) is a product obtained by calcining petroleum coke, which is the product of the coking unit of a crude oil refinery. Calcined petroleum coke (CPC) is mainly used to manufacture anodes in aluminum industry, iron and steel industry, titanium smelting industry, etc. Coke as an anode material must have a sufficiently low metal content. The primary coke with low metal content is called anode-grade coke. Raw coke with high metal content is not suitable for calcination and combustion. For this reason, raw coke is also called fuel grade coke.

Properties and uses

Aluminum Production: CPC is indispensable in aluminum production. It is used to make anodes, which are essential for the electrolytic process that separates aluminum from its oxide.
Steel Industry: CPC acts as a carbon enhancer, helping to adjust the carbon content to ensure the production of high-quality steel.
Graphite Electrode Manufacturing: Due to its high purity and carbon content, CPC coke is also a key ingredient in the production of arc furnace electrodes in the steel industry.
Other Uses: Among other uses, CPC is used in the production of titanium dioxide, as a component of brake pads and clutches, and in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries.

 

Process

Raw coke, when calcined, produces specific properties that make it suitable for industrial use. Calcination is the controlled heating of the primary coke to a temperature of 1250°C to 1350°C. This process removes moisture, hydrocarbons and other volatile substances from the primary coke, which densifies the particles and changes the electrical properties from insulating to conducting. The calcined coke is called CPC.
