Detailed introduction
Petrocoke is a carbonaceous product obtained during the oil refining process. It is abbreviated as coke or Petcoke. Calcined petroleum coke is a product obtained by placing low-sulfur petroleum coke in a calcining furnace and calcining it at 1300℃ to remove impurities such as moisture, ash, and volatiles in the petroleum coke. The calcined petroleum coke has a black or dark gray hard solid appearance, a metallic luster, and is porous. Calcined petroleum coke is composed of hydrocarbons and contains more than 98.5% carbon. Calcined petroleum coke has a wide range of industrial uses and can be used in steelmaking, ironmaking, general casting and other industries. It can also be used to manufacture cast brake discs, crankshafts, brake pads, etc.

Petrocoke after calcination:
1) Eliminate volatile matter and moisture in raw materials. After calcination, the volatile matter of calcined petroleum coke is less than 0.5%, and the moisture content is less than 0.3%.
The volatile content and moisture of the calcined coke represent the degree of calcining. If it fails to meet the requirements, it will shrink twice and form cracks during calcining.
2) The density and mechanical strength of petroleum coke are improved. The true density is greater than 2.00 g/cm3.
The true density of coke affects the true density of the final product. Due to the difficulty in molding, poor mechanical strength and low bulk density mainly affect molding. The raw material quality cannot meet the requirements within the specified time, affecting the operation of the aluminum electrolytic cell. The main manifestation is slag falling.

How to make it?
When producing calcined petroleum coke, raw coke is added to the end of the rotary kiln, and gas or heavy oil is sprayed into the kiln head nozzle and mixed with air for combustion, forming a high-temperature calcined belt, which reaches a temperature of 1,200-1,350 degrees Celsius. High temperature removes moisture and releases volatile matter.
The high temperature removes the moisture and releases the volatile components, which makes the coke crystal structure rearrange, the lattice position of carbon atoms change, and chemical changes occur, generating dense and conductive products. After a period of time, the coke is slowly cooled to below 200°C and can be stored.
