A ferroalloy consisting of manganese and iron. Main classifications: high-carbon ferromanganese (7 per cent carbon), medium-carbon FeMn (1.0-1.5 per cent carbon), low-carbon FeMn (0.5 per cent carbon), manganese metal, mirror iron, silicomanganese alloys.
Application of High Ferromanganese alloy



Ferromanganese alloy is widely used in steel industry, foundry industry and other industrial production.
1,Steel industry: Ferromanganese alloy is an indispensable deoxidiser and desulphuriser in steel making industry. Good steel has to be deoxidised and desulphurised during the melting process, and deoxidisation will make its production cost much higher, so FeMn is a kind of cheap deoxidiser, while desulphurisation is the separation of sulphur and other harmful substances from steel, FeMn can play the role of desulphurisation, help to reduce the harmful elements in the steel, and improve the quality of steel. In steel industry, 3-5kg of 75% FeMn is needed to produce 1 tonne of steel.
2, Foundry industry: Adding Ferromanganese alloy in cast iron can be used as a breeding and spheroidising agent, which can inhibit the generation of carbides, promote the precipitation of graphite, greatly shorten the spheroidising time, and also greatly reduce the presence of impurities in the ferrofluid, which improves the quality of cast iron and improves the performance of cast iron. This reduces the clogging of the blast furnace water outlet and improves the service life of the blast furnace.
3,Other industries: High-carbon FeMn or manganese quality alloy is used as a reducing agent for the production of low-carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry. Ferromanganese powder can be used as suspension phase in mineral processing industry, and as coating for welding rod in welding rod manufacturing industry; high manganese femn can be used to prepare pure manganese for semiconductor in electrical industry, and can be used to manufacture manganese ketone in chemical industry.
Upstream and downstream of Ferromanganese alloy
The upstream of the manganese industry chain is manganese ore mining, and the types of manganese ores are mainly manganese oxide ore and manganese carbonate ore, while the rest include manganese silicate ore and manganese sulphide ore.
In the midstream smelting and processing, the manganese industry chain can be divided into two major parts: one is the electric furnace and coke reduction of manganese ores to obtain manganese alloys, mainly high-carbon ferromanganese, medium-low carbon FeMn, silicomanganese alloys, etc., which are used in steel making as deoxidising agent, desulphurising agent and alloying additives; and the other is the preparation of manganese sulphate from leaching of manganese ore in sulfuric acid, and then obtaining various types of high-purity manganese compounds by electrolysis, de-emulsification or oxidation.
Manganese products have a wide range of downstream applications, with more than 90 per cent of the world's manganese used in the iron and steel metallurgy industry, and the rest used in the battery industry, magnetic materials, the chemical industry and many other fields.
